In 1953, Lou Donaldson invited Clifford Brown to record a session with his band; Brown at the time had just gotten back at playing music after a serious car crash two years prior. Joined by Elmo Hope on piano, Philly Joe Jones on drums and Percy Heath on bass, the two men recorded a session for Blue Note Records on june 9, 1953. It was later released as the album "New Faces - New Sounds" on Blue Note [BP-5030]. The next year both joined the Art Blakey Quintet that ended up recording the seminal Birdland sessions.
