Louis Armstrong and His All-Stars was a legendary six-piece jazz ensemble formed in 1947 that served as the primary touring vehicle for jazz pioneer Louis Armstrong until his passing. As large swing big bands became financially unviable after World War II, Armstrong returned to his roots by forming this smaller, powerhouse Dixieland and traditional jazz group. The Founding "All-Stars" The original 1947 lineup debuted at the Billy Berg's club in Hollywood and featured some of the most virtuoso soloists in jazz history:
